Today marks the launch of the UN-led 16 days of activity to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls (VAWG) around the world; but Dr Sarah Jane Fox of the University of Leicester warns that while some progress has been made in tackling VAWG, latest figures show the levels of violence remain horrifically high, with the World Cup and approaching Christmas Holidays likely to lead to another surge in abuse across the UK in the coming weeks.
