Accessibility statement for Policing Insight

We want everyone who visits the Policing Insight website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding.

What are we doing?
To help us make the Policing Insight website a positive place for everyone, we’ve been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.

The guidelines have three levels of accessibility (A, AA and AAA). We’ve chosen Level A as the target for the Policing Insight website.

How are we doing?
We’re working hard to achieve our goal of Level A accessibility, but we realise there are some areas that still need improving. The following information explains what we’re doing to make that happen.

1.1.1: Non-text Content
Add all descriptive alt text to images primarily where possible.

1.2.1: Audio-only and Video-only (Prerecorded)
If any Audio only content is available, it is supplied via third party sites.
Where we can, we will attempt to make a transcript, sometimes this isn’t possible due to the nature of the article.

1.2.2: Captions (Prerecorded)
If any pre-recorded audio content is available, it is supplied via third party sites.
Where we can, we will attempt to make a transcript, sometimes this isn’t possible.

1.2.3: Audio Description or Media Alternative (Prerecorded)
If any Audio only content is available, it is supplied via third party sites.
Where we can, we will attempt to make a transcript, sometimes this isn’t possible.

1.3.1: Info and Relationships
Expand site functionality though accessibility options.
Add regions to articles and other blocks of the site to determine the head, navigation, content and sidebar regions.

1.3.3: Sensory Characteristics
With many elements available of many pages, it is procedure to ensure each element is appropriate for its use.
This is an ongoing development.

2.1.1: Keyboard
No specific keyboard controls have been considered for navigating the site outside of local browser capabilities.

2.1.2: No Keyboard Trap
No specific keyboard controls have been considered for navigating the site outside of local operating system capabilities.

2.1.4: Character Key Shortcuts
No specific keyboard controls have been considered for navigating the site outside of local operating system capabilities.

2.4.1: Bypass Blocks
Future development to include anchor links to take users directly to the article content.

2.5.4: Motion Actuation
Research into what would be necessary to handle motion actuation and how to implement for the specific areas.

4.1.1: Parsing
Some errors remain from initial development, which will be addressed and standards adhered to

4.1.2: Name, Role, Value
Some errors remain from initial development, which will be addressed
