“I do solemnly and sincerely declare and affirm that I will well and truly serve the Queen in the office of constable…”
Many here will have sworn this oath of allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who has died this evening after a reign of over 70 years. She devoted her life to public service.
As Policing Insight and PolicingTV’s Publisher, and on behalf of the Policing Insight and PolicingTV team, I offer my deepest condolences to her family, friends and all who loved and respected her.
Those outside the United Kingdom and Commonwealth may not fully appreciate the positive – and, I would suggest, profound – impact she had on the British way of life.
The oath of allegiance will change by one word: the devotion of so many in policing to public service will remain steadfast.
