Police Governance Summit 2019 – Wednesday 3rd to Thursday 4th July. BOOKING NOW OPEN

BOOKING IS NOW OPEN for the first annual "Police Governance" summit, which will take place on Wednesday 3rd to Thursday 4th July 2019. Put the dates in your diary today - and book your place now! CoPaCC Chief Executive and Policing Insight Publisher, Bernard Rix, sets out why you should attend...

Booking is now open for the second annual Police Governance Summit.

The first Police Governance Summit last year attracted a capacity audience, and excellent feedback. Here’s a representative cross-section of the comments from that first Summit:

“Great first conference – I really look forward to seeing how this grows and changes next year and onwards”

“Given this was the first such event of this nature, it was a really good start”

“Length and pace of the conference was spot on”

“Generally excellent speakers who were very well informed on topics and focused in their presentations. The event was well organised. Thanks! I learned a lot”.

And – remarkably – feedback from EVERY attendee indicated they planned to attend future Governance Summits.

With the support and guidance of leading police governance professionals, academics and other interested parties, we’re now going to build on that great start, and make this year’s Police Governance Summit even more informative for attendees.

Police Governance Summit 2018 – Agenda to cover…

We are currently preparing the detailed agenda for this year’s Summit. Topics we aim to cover include:

  • Collaboration: How can previous experiences (such as the National Police Air Service, Warwickshire – West Mercia, Dorset – Devon & Cornwall and more) inform future collaboration on areas such as forensics and firearms operations?
  • Complaints: As the police complaints system changes, what early lessons might there be?
  • Police and Crime Panels: What works best?
  • The Strategic Policing Requirement (SPR): As “national threats” evolve, how will local contributions need to change?
  • Chief Officer recruitment: Encouraging the right candidates to apply.
  • PCC Governance 2012-2019: Is the time right for a national review?
  • Police Finance: How can the system be reformed when every force (and PCC) thinks they’re a special case?
  • Force Management Statements and police demand
  • Seven (and counting) UK models for policing governance: What would help the sharing of good practice?
  • Police and Fire Governance: What are the emerging lessons?
  • Safeguarding children and young people: What are the implications for policing governance?
  • PCC elections in 2020: How best to help PCC candidates prepare?

We welcome suggestions, both on topics you wish to see covered and on speakers you would hope might contribute. Please leave any suggestions in the “Comments” box below.

Who should attend?

The Summit will be of particular interest and relevance to:

  • OPCC Chief Executives, Chiefs of Staff and Treasurers

  • Those in academia with a particular interest in police governance
  • Voluntary and third sector organisation staff wishing to improve their understanding of the work of their local OPCC
  • Police suppliers also wishing to improve their understanding of the work of OPCCs
