Limited research has explored the impacts of POP and community policing efforts focused on young people, despite them making up a large proportion of offenders, and long-term impacts of criminal justice involvement on youth. The present study examines the impact of a youth-focused POP intervention on youth (ages 12 to 24) perceptions of police and their communities in three mid-Atlantic cities. We measured ten outcomes related to victimization, fear of crime, perceptions of disorder, trust and legitimacy, and police encounters. Overall, we did not find significant differences between treatment and control hot spots on our ten outcomes. Practice implications indicate that community policing and POP strategies must be implemented at a higher level than the present study to impact youth perceptions of police.
