UKROEd is a private, not-for-profit company which conducts the management and administration of the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS), on behalf of the Police Service of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is the operating company of the Road Safety Trust (RST). The scheme has grown significantly and now involves hundreds of thousands of users each year, redistributing any surpluses from course fees to the RST. The name UKROEd is derived from United Kingdom Road Offender Education – emphasising our focus on the education and training of drivers who commit relevant traffic offences across the UK. We are proud of the fact that our courses make a real and demonstrable impact on driver behaviours and, hence, on the safety of all road users.
We provide the central governance, standards and consistency of the police NDORS scheme and assist police forces to offer high quality courses, both across the UK and on-line, as well as collect and distribute course fees to Police Forces and course providers. This involves administering over 1.5 million courses a year, with a strong emphasis on maintaining highly efficient and secure information systems. These systems hold millions of items of data and connect Police Forces, the public and training providers to ensure that courses are delivered effectively.
Our vision is to contribute to zero road death and serious injury on UK roads and our goal is to prevent offending and to prevent re-offending. To achieve our goal, we have a clear set of priorities for 2021-2024 which are strong stakeholder and public trust and confidence; high quality and accessible education programmes; compliance with standards; and research and evaluation of prevention opportunities.
We are seeking to appoint a new Chair to succeed Suzette Davenport who will step down in May 2022. The Chair of UKROEd has the overall purpose of leading our Board to drive the strategic direction and to ensure effective governance at UKROEd. The Chair will provide the leadership to enable the Directors to fulfil their duties and will ensure that the executive team has the support, guidance and challenge they need to carry out their roles. This will be done in accordance with the relevant legal and statutory guidelines governing UKROEd.
The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of strategic leadership and Chair experience and demonstrate an ability to lead and develop strategic, complex relationships across public, voluntary and private sectors. They must have a track record of achievement in services to all sections of the UK public and a commitment to the vision, mission, values and goals of UKROEd, along with a passion for road safety. This is an exciting time to be joining a young organisation which has an ambitious strategy and a strong growth trajectory.
