Red Snapper Group (RSG) today announced they have launched their new ‘Future Leadership Mentor Scheme’, a pilot aimed at helping officers from underrepresented backgrounds pass their National Investigators and Sergeants exams.
The scheme will be delivered on a remote basis and is completely free for every officer who takes part
Fifty serving officers will receive examination support services via the RSG e-learning service policerevision.com, alongside one-to-one mentoring support from former mid-rank and senior officers; all of whom are from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds within the police force.
Both the provision of mentoring and examination support will be fully funded by RSG on non-commercial grounds, meaning officers can access the service completely free of charge.
A spokesperson from RSG made the following statement regarding the new pilot scheme:
“Red Snapper Group is proud to be a market leading provider of staffing, training, media and business process outsourcing services to law enforcement organisations; we want to both show our appreciation to the organisations which engage our services and ensure we operate as a best in class corporate citizen.
We believe the UK has one of the best police services in the world. However, no institution is perfect and UK policing has its challenges.
UK policing is working hard to ensure historically underrepresented groups join the service and achieve leadership roles and we want to play our part in supporting the advancement of underrepresented groups in policing.”
In 2019/20, in England and Wales 4.87% of police promotions were attributed to officers from underrepresented backgrounds. Compared to the 7.34% of all serving officers that come from these same backgrounds. Overall figures also highlight that there is only 2% representation in chief officer roles and less than 6% representation in every role above constable.*
About the Scheme
The scheme will be delivered on a remote basis and is completely free for every officer who takes part. Each delegate will receive a minimum of 5 hours of one-to-one coaching with their mentor, via online video conferencing, to both assist officers in preparation for their examinations and to provide pastoral support.
The mentoring process will work in tandem with the autonomous learning delegates are required to undertake through policerevision.com; which includes hours of video presentations, multiple-choice exam-style questions, presentations on exam technique and much more.
The mentors chosen by RSG to lead the scheme and support our delegates have been carefully vetted for their experience and expertise. Each mentor has demonstrated they possess the contemporary technical knowledge and the right attributes to provide one-on-one guidance
The scheme will be supporting delegates through the spring 2021 intake and is open for applications from the 1st of September.
Interested officers will be required to self-nominate via a short online application form, which will include a statement setting out their case to be included in the scheme.
A panel of judges, from a mix of backgrounds, will select the best fifty applications based on these statements. Organisations are encouraged to share information about the scheme to potential delegates rather than nominate, or put forward, delegates directly.
The scheme is subject to strict governance and safeguarding policies and procedures. It is also fully GDPR compliant.
