Profile
After university (Liverpool and Cambridge) I served in the Regular Army 1971 until 2000.
From 2000 to 2009 I was one of HM Inspectors of Constabulary for policing in England Wales and Northern Ireland, with a responsibility for personnel, training and diversity, and carried out inspections in every force, producing nearly 70 reports. I am still a senior police assessor, an Independent Member for Chief Police Officer appointments, and a Vice-President of the National Association for Chaplains in the Police (NACP).
I am a member of the Bar Standards Board (Professional Conduct Committee) and its working group on Women at the Bar, and a visiting Professor at Portsmouth University (Institute of Criminal Justice Studies).
