Profile
Rachel Rogers is councillor for Littlemoor ward on Weymouth and Portland Borough Council. She was Labour’s Parliamentary candidate in West Dorset in 2015 and Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner candidate in Dorset in 2012.
Rachel believes that we need more people at all levels of government who have had real jobs and down-to-earth lives. She brings to her politics experience of working in the public, private and third sectors and an enthusiasm for evidence-based policies.
Rachel was senior caseworker for Lord Knight, when he was MP for South Dorset. Prior to that, she spent ten years in Her Majesty’s Prison Service, where she worked closely with a range of criminal justice agencies and with other public and third sector organisations, such as the NHS and addiction treatment services. Rachel gained first-hand experience of managing outsourced contracts as services such as education, transport and court provision were taken over by the private sector. She also developed a healthy distrust of arbitrary numerical targets.
Rachel is a qualified teacher. She has worked in the field of children’s rights, consulting with children in care and children who are disabled, and currently works for a third-sector advice service.
Rachel lives in Weymouth, where she has a large collection of cookery books from around the globe, an eclectic store-cupboard to match and is happiest testing out unusual recipes on unsuspecting friends.
