Profile
Natalie joined Anglia Ruskin University in January 2011, having worked as a Teaching Fellow in the Sociology Department at the University of Essex. She completed her PhD in Criminology at the University of Essex in 2008. It was entitled Doing Harder Time? The Experiences of an Ageing Male Prison Population in England and Wales and was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. The research investigated the ways in which ageing men experience imprisonment, how they cope and the unique problems they experience. It is informed by strong structuration theory and Goffman's interactionism.
Since gaining her PhD, Natalie has continued to research ageing prisoners and has made a significant contribution to the knowledge of this forgotten section of the prison population. Natalie has also published work on child sex offenders and is shortly due to conduct research with Essex Police, Essex Probation and Essex MAPPA on the monitoring and surveillance of high-risk sexual offenders.
