Andy Champness is Chief Executive of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia. Having started his career as an usher in the Inner London Magistrates’ Courts, he progressed to Deputy Justices Clerk for Gloucestershire before joining the Gloucestershire Police Authority as Chief Executive in February 2008. After leading Gloucestershire through the transition to the PCCs, he moved to West Mercia in April 2014. He is the current Chair of the Association of Policing and Crime Chief Executives (APACE) and has been on the executive of APACE since 2010. He worked with the Home Office on the creation of Police and Crime Commissioners, and with them and the Ministry of Justice on further developments since. Andy is a Barrister, Chartered Manager and Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute.
