David's research interests relate to police accountability and regulation. In 2016 his book ‘Death after police contact: constructing accountability in the 21st century’ was published through Palgrave-Macmillan. He has been a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Coventry University since 2008 where he leads and teaches on a number of undergraduate Criminology modules. In 2013-14 he was awarded the title ‘Inspirational Teacher of the Year’ at Coventry University. He is a member of the Legal Action Group and the British Society of Criminology. In 2015 he was awarded a three month central research sabbatical fellowship. I spent five months in the United States in late 2016 on a Fulbright scholarship. This involved his teaching Criminology at Elon University in North Carolina in addition to conducting research in 15 states into the issue of deaths after police contact. His next research project focuses on families and their search for justice after family members have died after police contact in England and Wales.
