PolicingPeople: Now offering additional policing resource, at this most critical of times

PolicingPeople is a new technology solution for interim police recruitment, launched today. PolicingPeople Managing Director, Ian Tomson-Smith, explains how this new initiative can help police forces worldwide meet the challenge of Covid-19. Have you got relevant skills and experience? Register your availability now to "Play Your Part".

We are in unprecedented times, with the Covid-19 pandemic setting policing challenges never previously experienced. New approaches to securing skills for police forces are needed more than ever before. PolicingPeople is a new technology solution for that vital interim (or “temporary”) police recruitment, and we are delighted to launch globally today. By allowing over-stretched forces to directly match requirements with available candidates, securely and in real time, we will support the rapid deployment of extra policing capacity quickly and effectively.

Are you a potential candidate?

More than ever, police forces worldwide need additional interim or temporary staff with expert policing-related skills and experience.

If you’re a potential candidate – wherever you are in the world – you can now register your interest, via the PolicingPeople website, in supporting your local police force as a contractor.

At this time, we are particularly interested in hearing from those who currently have, or have recently had, relevant security clearance. We are also particularly interested in hearing from candidates with the following skills or experience:

  • communications
  • community support
  • call handling
  • enforcement support
  • ICT support
  • investigation support
  • policy development
  • statement taking
  • training

What can Policing People offer police forces?

In these particularly challenging times, ready availability of expert policing-oriented contract staff is going to be of great help in filling policing roles in a timely affordable way. Not just in the UK – where our initial focus will be – but also worldwide.

By using secure cloud-based technology and leveraging a proven solution from the UK Health and Education markets, we have built an easy-to-use solution that benefits both the force and the candidate. For the force, placements are accelerated, and choice is enhanced. The solution covers all types of policing resource from front line officer skills, to critical support or investigative staff. Offers and acceptances will be made in real-time, and the solution includes ID, vetting and experience validation as optional workflows. Deployment is simple, with a web based interface for forces and both web and App interfaces for candidates.

More than ever, police forces worldwide need additional interim or temporary staff with expert policing-related skills and experience.

For candidates, the downloadable App and website will be easy to use and will provide full visibility of all force requirements and opportunities. For the first time, the candidate will have full visibility of what is available, and can choose what works for them. This includes being able to flag periods of unavailability and reflect part time availability. Payments are also facilitated by the solution, removing any need for the candidate to invoice forces. PolicingPeople also supports management of local regulations (such as IR35 in the UK).

Many retired officers, Special Constables, volunteers and other suitably experienced civilians have already stepped forward to play their part. We are delighted now to offer this further, complementary solution to the policing market worldwide. Whilst our initial focus is on the United Kingdom – where we are based – we will also be making this solution available worldwide.

Here in the UK, we have held extensive discussions on our proposition with the Police ICT Company, with the National Policing Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), with Police and Crime Commissioners, as well as with other key policing stakeholders. We look forward to PolicingPeople supporting the excellent police work already taking place in meeting the challenge of this global pandemic.
