Announcement:

Policing Insight appoints a Deputy Editor

Sarah Gibbons

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Gibbons as Deputy Editor of Policing Insight. Sarah has been appointed to aid the ongoing development of our editorial, improving the quality and diversity of our content.

Our mission at Policing Insight is to provide an ever more valuable platform for stakeholders across law enforcement and criminal justice to share their opinions, analysis, knowledge, expertise and innovation, with the aim of benefiting policing outcomes at all levels.

Over the past 12 months, and building on the work of all of those who have been involved in the site since we first launched, we have been able to make great progress in improving the quantity and quality of content, while also increasing and diversifying our international coverage. The response to that team effort has been fantastic, with many new organisations that have an interest in progressive policing – including police agencies, academic institutions and commercial organisations – all choosing to support our work by subscribing.

Highlighting success and innovation in policing is a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing this with our growing audience of subscribers from around the world. I hope to develop further my extensive network of police contacts and showcase all that is positive about the service through my work.”

Now, as we move forward through 2021, we want to make sure we maintain that growth by investing in our team and continuing to deliver real value to our large and growing community of readers. So we are delighted to announce that as part of that investment we have appointed highly respected journalist Sarah Gibbons to the new position of Deputy Editor.

As many of you will know, Sarah was a regular writer for Policing Insight throughout 2020, producing some outstanding articles. She brings huge experience to her new role having spent much of her journalistic career focusing on police issues.

She covered major crime stories and subsequent trials during her time as a reporter with a national news agency before specialising in policing at Police Review magazine, and was one of a small team that launched an international version of the title.

Sarah was then head-hunted by the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales to be their first Communications Manager. This role included liaising with national and international media, editing a magazine, developing and managing the organisation’s first (and subsequent) website and introducing the Association to social media.

For the past nine years, Sarah has worked freelance, writing for a variety of publications, most recently joining the team of Policing Insight writers in early 2020. Speaking about her new role, Sarah said: “I’m thrilled to have been appointed Deputy Editor, and to have the opportunity of working with such talented individuals on the team who have unrivalled knowledge of policing and the issues which impact its success.

“Highlighting success and innovation in policing is a passion of mine and I look forward to sharing this with our growing audience of subscribers from around the world. I hope to develop further my extensive network of police contacts and showcase all that is positive about the service through my work.”

As well as continuing to write for Policing Insight, Sarah’s appointment will expand our capacity to commission and publish quality articles, liaising with commentators, experts and stakeholders to find and share knowledge, practice and innovation with our readers. We hope you will join us in welcoming Sarah to her new role.
