These advancements have led to media availability through digital sources such as online news archives, streaming media, and podcasts. This has increased accessibility due to the abundance of publicly available media sources. The current study examines the support for law enforcement among higher education students, focusing on their perceptions of police and their engagement with crime-related media. Surveys were administered to students in introductory criminal justice and communication and media studies courses at a public university in the Midwest. Results showed that students who viewed law enforcement as more effective were generally more supportive of the police. In terms of crime-related media, those who consumed true crime/documentaries and podcasts indicated greater support for law enforcement. These findings highlight how media can influence perceptions of law enforcement and how this is additionally altered with technological advancements in media consumption habits. Future work should examine multiple media sources to understand the dynamics of developing informed and balanced perspectives of law enforcement.
