It forms the first output of the Methamphetamine in New Zealand Research Programme. The Methamphetamine in New Zealand Research Programme was established by Police in February 2020 in response to, and with the need to evidence the significant harm caused by methamphetamine. The research is supported and guided by a Steering Group with representatives from government agencies, non-government organisations (including the New Zealand Drug Foundation), universities and Iwi (Tūhoe) who have influence over, and/or a substantial interest in methamphetamine harm reduction. New Zealand Police 12/11/2021 Report Beyond the “Ferguson Effect” on Crime: Examining its Influence on Law Enforcement Personnel The purpose of the current study is to examine the influence tensions over high-profile officer-involved shootings have had on Atlanta police officers’ ability to do their jobs and whether these impacts vary by officer race. Data was collected between August and October of 2016. A total of 241 police officers across six zones completed the self-administered survey. Findings indicate that while white officers, on average, felt the impacts of recent tensions surrounding officer-involved shootings more strongly, non-white officers were more likely to say they would leave policing if offered a better paying job in another field. This study provides insight into racial differences in the impacts of recent tensions and protests over fatal officer-involved shootings. Crime and Delinquency 12/11/2021 Research article Assessing the Risk of Repeat Victimization Using Structured and Unstructured Police Information Following the EU Victim Directive, Dutch police officers are obliged to assess a victim’s vulnerability to repeat victimization. This study explored the utility of unstructured police information for the prediction of repeat victimization, as well as its incremental value over and above structured police information. Police records over a period of 6 years were retrieved for a sample of 116,680 victims. Unstructured information was transformed into numeric features using count-vector and TF/IDF methods. Classification models were built using decision tree and random forest models. AUC values indicate that a combination of structured and unstructured police information could be used to correctly classify a majority of repeat and non-repeat victims.
