Gérald Darmanin made the claim after summoning regional police chiefs to Paris for a dressing down, during which he threatened to stop buying the Peugeot 5008s that have become police officers’ favourite car. Darmanin said officers seemed to like the cars so much that they rarely got out of them and suggested that their attitude was undermining the fight against crime. He said chiefs must ask the officers “to get out of their vehicles. Otherwise, I will no longer buy 5008s if I see that they are being used too much.” The Times - Subscription at source 13/9/2022 News Two awards for projects tackling car crime and indecent exposure. The Standard 13/9/2022 News Public Opinion on Immigration Law Enforcement, Support for the Police, and Obligation to Report Undocumented Immigrants to the Police Immigration and immigration enforcement are highly debated in the United States and internationally; however, few studies have examined public opinion on immigration law enforcement using a national sample. Using a panel-based national survey of U.S. citizens, this study explored whether the 2016 U.S. presidential candidate choice influenced public opinion concerning local police officers’ involvement in immigration enforcement. Findings from OLS models indicated that, compared to those who voted for Donald Trump in 2016, those who voted for Hillary Clinton were less likely to endorse using local police to aid in immigration law enforcement and to believe that the public is obligated to report undocumented immigrants to the police. Additionally, compared to those who voted for Donald Trump, those who voted for Hillary Clinton were more inclined to agree that using local police to enforce immigration laws would lower public support for the police. Policy implications are discussed. Race and Justice - Subscription at source 13/9/2022 Research article «273227332734273527362737273827392740Next ›Last » Upcoming events View all events
