It can alter police officers' vision, hearing, perception of time, and memory. Prior shootings or information about weapons significantly increase the likelihood of shooting an unarmed suspect. Additionally, officers may be influenced to fire their weapons after hearing colleagues' gunshots or may fire involuntarily due to sudden movements. There is also a time lapse between the suspect ceasing resistance and the officer stopping using force. All these effects impact the analysis of the subjective element of any criminal conduct committed by police officers in the line of duty. Here, we present an interpretation of these effects from the perspective of the main legal theories on intent and malpractice negligence in legal doctrine in Criminal Law.
