This scoping literature review maps the literature on crime harm indices published after 2006 by answering the following research questions: (1) what is the rationale for a CHI, (2) what are the possible ways to operationalize a CHI; (3) how can a CHI be used in crime analysis; (4) what are the general outcomes of the studies using a CHI; (5) what are the known challenges and critiques of a CHI and (6) what research gaps related to CHI are expressed in this field of research? The top-secret documents were found by venue staff in September 2021 and handed into police after they realised how important they were. Reflecting on progress in the context of ‘policing’ domestic abuse in England and Wales This article considers how far multi-agency policing has travelled in England and Wales. As we move into the fourth decade of investment in the multi-agency approach to policing a plethora of crime and victimisation problems, it is appropriate for us to reflect on progress. Drawing on the broader literature, state strategies promoting multi-agency and partnership working and reflecting on research and evaluations of multi-agency partnerships to tackle domestic abuse, the article raises some prickly questions about our continued faith in the multi-agency approach to reduce domestic abuse, protect and support survivors and hold perpetrators to account. The paper begins by offering an outline of the significant shift in policing that ushered in an era of crime prevention and community safety. A critical review then unfolds drilling into progress and prospects in the context of multi-agency policing of domestic abuse contemporarily. The article closes by posing further questions about the present climate and the longer-term direction for multi-agency and partnership working in the context of policing domestic abuse. The Guardian 8/10/2022 News Where racial and ethnic disparities in policing come from: The spatial concentration of arrests across six cities This study examines the extent to which citywide racial and ethnic disparities in arrests are driven by a subset of places within cities. Data are drawn from six U.S. cities from 2014 to 2019. Results indicate that arrests are strongly concentrated within a few block groups, for all race and ethnicities in all cities. Coupled with higher rates of arrests for Blacks and (in some cities) Hispanics compared to Whites and other racial groups, this means that a few places in every city are responsible for driving citywide racial and ethnic disparities in arrests. These arrest hot spots demonstrate very high year-to-year stability. There is a strong relationship between crime and arrest hot spots, making crime hot spots key drivers of citywide racial and ethnic disparities in arrests.
