Police Professional 29/12/2022 News The Psychometric Adequacy of Adult Forensic Interview Protocols for Sexual Assault: a Literature Review The forensic complainant interview is a unique opportunity to gather essential forensic information and is a central component of most sexual assault investigations. Past criticisms of these interviews have focused on inappropriate and harmful questioning, but there has been little attention to questions regarding the reliability, validity, cultural tailoring, and stakeholder acceptability of these. We conducted a literature review regarding all studies psychometrically investigating interview protocols used for sexual assault complainant interviews. Inclusion criteria required articles to include the investigation of an interview protocol used with adult sexual assault complainants or analog complainants. The literature search revealed six semi-structured protocols used for sexual assault interviews, all with very limited psychometric data, an inability to address some important forensic interview goals, and possible confirmation biases. This review also uncovered a trend to insert neuroscience into interview protocols despite problematic interpretations of this research and a lack of evidence of the usefulness of its inclusion. Unfortunately, these limitations indicate that currently there is no best-practice evidence-based sexual assault interview protocol. The importance of the problem of sexual assault necessitates a need to serve all those affected by recognizing the need for more rigorous development and testing of forensic interview protocols. Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology - Subscription at source 29/12/2022 Research article Exploring and developing crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) audits: an iterative process This paper utilizes an ecological perspective to explore the development of a crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) audit tool through an ongoing iterative process. We draw upon existing examples from criminology and research into auditing the built environment for physical activity and active travel. The purpose of the paper is to present a revised CPTED audit tool and process to assist those managing crime and anti-social behaviour in their streets, neighbourhoods and communities. It may also assist those seeking to use audits as part of the CPTED process set out in the recent International Standards on CPTED: ISO22341 (British Standards 2021). Following Ceccato (Crim Justice Stud 32:165–188, 2019), we briefly reflect on the validity, reliability and generalizability of the CPTED audit tool and consider further possible refinements for future iterations.
