How do they assess the dangerousness of the coronavirus as well as the handling of the pandemic by society and the media? What are their opinions on the measures to contain the pandemic – personally as well as concerning their official duties? And how does all this affect their level of mental stress? These questions are answered based on original data from a standardized survey among employees of the police in the German state of Saxony carried out between October and November 2020. The results indicate that the diversity of opinion among Saxon police employees essentially reflects the spectrum of views that was also evident in Saxony and the German public during the survey period. At the same time, police-specific peculiarities are apparent. Furthermore, the attitudes and perspectives towards the pandemic form consistent attitudinal patterns. Using cluster analysis, three different attitudinal types were found in the Saxon police: concerned interventionists, unconcerned sceptics, and hesitant conformists. These attitudinal types show consistent patterns of attitudes and perspectives on the pandemic. They also report different levels of mental stress in the performance of their duties. The results contribute to a deeper understanding of the police force under the conditions of crisis and polarization. Furthermore, they have implications for leadership communication and organizational cultures in a democratic police force. PC Carrick’s conduct was first referred to us in July 2021 by the MPS after it was advised by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Major Crime Unit that Carrick was being investigated for an allegation of coercive or controlling behaviour and rape of a former partner. The latest figures, which apply to January 2023, show that West Yorkshire Police’s Contact Management Centre is answering 999 calls in an average of 6.42 seconds. This figure is a full second faster than the results in December 2022 where West Yorkshire Police’s 999 answering speed was 7.4 seconds. The Force’s Contact Management Centre also placed 2nd in the country for percentage of calls answered in under 10 seconds, at 89.2%, closely following Humberside Police who were at 89.4%.
