Vacancy: Head of the School of Policing Studies at Australia’s Charles Sturt University

Australia's Charles Sturt University is seeking a new Head for the School of Policing Studies. The school is Australia's leading provider of police recruit level training with the University and the NSW Police Force having a unique partnership to design, develop and deliver tertiary courses in policing. Closing Date: 11pm, 24 May 2023 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

The Role

  • Fixed Term (up to 5 years), Full Time
  • Senior remuneration package in the range of A$191,806 – A$239,758 pa
  • Relocation support provided
  • Goulburn, New South Wales

As the Head, School of Policing Studies, you will have responsibility for the overall management and performance of the school in learning and teaching, and financial and resource management.  You will provide leadership and mentorship to ensure all areas of the school are operating efficiently and cohesively and is positively contributing to the mission and values of the Faculty and the University.  You will develop and maintain a strategic relationship with the NSW Police Force and other relevant stakeholders including government, industry, public sector organisations, professional bodies and community groups.

To be successful you will have:

  • A Masters or PhD in a discipline relevant to police education in an Australian context.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic management and accreditation processes and standards.
  • Demonstrated success in the leadership and management of teaching and learning development and delivery of an excellent student experience.
  • Strong people leader skills and experience with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships that deliver tangible benefits.

The resources of both a large residential police academy and a responsive and progressive university have been brought together to provide a balanced, innovative service in police recruit level training and education.

The School of Policing Studies has staff located at Goulburn who primarily teach and undertake subject development in the undergraduate policing program for on-campus and online students studying to be a Police Officer with the NSW Police Force. In addition, an integral component of an academic staff member’s workload is dedicated to professional industry liaison, by maintaining sound relationships with industry agencies.
