Intelligence International

The AIPIO ‘Intelligence International 2022’ conference and exhibition - to be held in the Sofitel Melbourne, 23-26 October – brings together over 50 national and international leaders offering subject matter expertise to navigate collaboration across capability development, new partnerships, and emerging ethical dilemmas. The event is a hybrid event with both in person and online registrations available.

In 2022, the Australian Institute of Professional Intelligence Officers (AIPIO) has engaged like-minded bodies internationally to explore collaboration in a complex and uncertain world.  The many domains of intelligence practice – from the traditional areas of policing and defence to emerging domains such as regulation, risk, and futures – must adapt to the multiple challenges of growing volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity in our modern world.

Leveraging insights from partnerships and relationships in these challenging times offers a timely and cost-effective strategy for adaptation.  The AIPIO ‘Intelligence International 2022’ conference and exhibition – to be held in the Sofitel Melbourne, 23-26 October – brings together over 50 national and international industry leaders offering subject matter expertise to navigate collaboration across capability development, new partnerships, and emerging ethical dilemmas.

The keynote speakers at Intelligence International 2022 also reflect the rich diversity and international character of the conference program.  Jonna Mendez – the former Chief of Disguise at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) who will reflect on collaborative problem solving throughout her career at CIA.  Major General (Ret) Ben Kite OBE from Kearney in the Middle East, and Mark Evans OBE, the Deputy Chief Executive of New Zealand Police, and Teresa Walsh, the London-based Global Head of Intelligence for the Financial Service Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (FS-ISAC) all offer perspectives across the many domains of intelligence practice.

Fourteen practical skills building sessions

Acknowledging the need to invest in our people, Intelligence International 2022 incorporates fourteen practical skills building sessions, targeting core competencies required for adaptation and growth.  These sessions, led by experienced intelligence practitioners, will be offered in-person and online to accommodate the needs of our modern hybrid workforce.  International training professionals such as Pherson Associates – who champion the use of critical thinking and structured analytic techniques in intelligence practice – anchor the skills building program.

The foundational work AIPIO has done to establish and foster communities of practice around financial intelligence, regulatory intelligence, and cybersecurity also features at Intelligence International 2022.  These communities of practice extend beyond the AIPIO membership to leverage expertise and insight from the wider intelligence practitioner base.

Networking opportunities

Intelligence International 2022 offers many opportunities for professional networking across representatives from the many national and international agencies attending the conference.  As well as many interactive sessions, a networking highlight is the conference dinner featuring guest speaker Dr Karla Lopez – the Consultant Forensic Psychologist for the television series Hunted Australia – who will bring together many strands of the conference with her presentation ‘Collaboration is a superpower!’
