The aim of the event is to:

  • Share current research in the area of domestic abuse with a specific focus on understanding the experiences of male victims.
  • Develop collaboration and advance efforts in supporting survivors and preventing domestic abuse.
  • Provide an opportunity for networking discussions with other practitioners and academics and sharing good practice and experiences of working with and supporting victims within the sector.

Speakers:

Sharne Williams

Chief Executive of The Paul Lavelle Foundation domestic abuse charity that offers frontline support to male victims of domestic abuse, raises national awareness, promotes physical and mental health, and delivers ‘healthy relationships’ education workshops.

Mark Brooks OBE 

  • Chair of the ManKind Initiative, Britain’s first (and leading) male domestic abuse charity.
  • Senior Communications and Policy Advisor: Men and Boys’ Health, Inclusion and Domestic Abuse.
  • Policy Advisor: All-Party Parliamentary Group on Men and Boys Issues
  • National Ambassador: International Men’s Day UK
  • Trustee: Men and Boys Coalition charity

Professor Ben Hine

A Professor of Applied Psychology at the University of West London; Chair of the Male Section of the British Psychological Society, Leader the Evidence-Based Domestic Abuse Research Network.  Author of ‘Parental Alienation: A Contemporary Guide’.

Dr Elizabeth Bates

An Associate Professor of Family Violence and Abuse at University of Cumbria and conducts research specialising in working with male victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Nicole Jacobs – TBC

Domestic Abuse Commissioner for England and Wales (Recorded video welcome message).

Nicole has set out her priorities for a new Government, including:

  • Policing and criminal justice
  • Family Courts
  • Domestic homicide and suicide
