Cityforum is delighted to be joining forces with The Police Foundation to convene this important discussion and to explore some of the most significant developments in policing policy in recent times.

Following the Home Secretary’s announcement of a new National Centre of Policing in November 2024, and with a White Paper on police reform expected over the summer, this forum will provide an opportunity for police, partners and stakeholders to discuss the opportunities and the challenges of delivering a reform programme of unprecedented scale and ambition.

The day will consider the governments ‘direction of travel’ for reform, and the implications of this vision.  How might the overall design of policing need to change, in terms of local, regional and national delivery?  What are the barriers to and the key conditions for success?  Culture, governance, standards and technology are all critical factors in achieving a transformation of this scale.  Lessons will be learned from previous efforts at police reform in the UK and overseas, as well as from the experience of major reforms in other parts of government and public service.
