FEATURE: Ahead of next week’s London Policing College Domestic Abuse workshop – the first in a series of workshops organised by the College, leading up to the 3rd International Police Education Conference in November – Vicky Lechuga, Manager of Hillingdon Women’s Centre, highlights the pressures created by the pandemic on domestic abuse services and survivors, as well as the opportunities for change during COVID-19 recovery.

Profile
Vicky Lechuga is an advocate and women’s rights activist. She is a qualified Young People’s Violence Advisor, and has an MA in International Education and Development from the University of Sussex. Vicky is an expert in violence against women and girls, with an emphasis on harmful practices, and has developed a career as a frontline worker and trainer. She identifies as intersectional feminist and, as a migrant, is passionate about supporting Black and Minoritised women. Currently, Vicky is Centre Manager at Hillingdon Women’s Centre, a charity that has provided a safe space for women who are in need of support for more than 30 years. Its primary services are related to domestic abuse for those in need of advice and support. Hillingdon Women’s Centre also works with women experiencing mental health difficulties, unemployment, isolation, and those needing legal and benefits advice.
