Dr Vince Hurley is a lecturer at Macquarie University, Department of Security Studies & Criminology, specialising in the contemporary role of the police and policing within criminological theories. He also lectures on Crisis Management and Disaster Relief. Before joining the University Vince spent 29 years as an operational police officer in the New South Wales Police Force, achieving the rank of Detective Superintendent. He worked in both uniform and detective roles, investigated drug trafficking into NSW and nationally, was a police hostage negotiator, and was seconded to the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet engineering state-wide crime reduction policy.
