Living in Essex after completing military service, John has held various private sector positions including business development, marketing, sales and programme directorship of national and international projects and distress programmes. Appointed in 2013 as one of two Independent Co-opted Members of the Essex Police & Crime Panel. He was actively engaged in the transition of the Essex Fire & Rescue Service Governance to the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. John is Chairman of the National Association of Police Fire & Crime Panels and an active Essex PFCP sub committee member including; • Complaints sub committee • Ethics and Integrity sub committee • Scrutiny committee for the FRS Governance business case submission to the Home Office • Essex Fire & Rescue Transition to the Commissioner - Public Consultation Community activities outwith Essex Police, Fire and Rescue activities include; • Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Essex Association of Local Councils (c.275 Parish and Town Councils) • Chairman of the Colchester Association of Local Councils (29 Councils) • Colchester Local Highways Panel member – Town & Parish Council Representative • Essex Rural Crime Forum member • Parish Councillor – Council Chairman and Chairman of Environment & Highways
