Profile
Alun Michael is Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales. As Deputy Home Secretary, he steered the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 onto the Statute Book, establishing crime reduction partnerships, youth offending teams and the Youth Justice Board. He then served as Secretary of State for Wales, the first First Minister of Wales, Minister for Rural Affairs and Minister for Industry. From 2006 he served on the Justice Select Committee and then the Home Affairs Committee. After 25 years as Labour and Co-operative MP for Cardiff South and Penarth, he resigned to contest the Police Commissioner election in 2012.
